Highlights & things to do

The statue, striking his signature “Aiin” pose, was unveiled in front of Higashimurayama Station in June 2021.

The statue was funded through crowdfunding, drawing more than 32 million yen in support.

The “Ken Shimura tree,” a zelkova (the city tree), was planted at the station's east exit in 1976.

It was the song “Higashimurayama Ondo” that made the town's name known across Japan. Pair the visit with the zelkova-lined avenue.
