From Taipei to Higashimurayama — from landing to standing in the town

Departing from Taoyuan, arriving at Narita or Haneda — either works. We walk you through the whole “line” from the airport to central Tokyo and on by the Seibu Shinjuku line to Higashimurayama Station, in enough detail that you won't get lost.

Opening hours, fees and event dates change. Before you go, please confirm the latest details on each facility's or organizer's official information.

The “Getting there” on each spot page covers the “point” from Higashimurayama Station to the site itself. This column covers the whole “line,” from leaving Taipei to standing at Higashimurayama Station. Travel times and fares are only rough guides; check each railway operator's and airport's official sources for the latest, accurate information.

STEP 1 — From Taoyuan to Narita or Haneda

Direct flights from Taipei (Taoyuan) land at either Narita Airport (NRT) or Haneda Airport (HND). You can reach Higashimurayama from either. As a rule, Haneda is closer to central Tokyo, while Narita has more flights.

STEP 2 — From the airport to a central hub such as Shinjuku or Ikebukuro

For Higashimurayama, aiming for “Shinjuku” makes the transfer easiest to follow. Typical ways from the airport to Shinjuku are below (fares and times are rough guides).

  • From Narita: take the JR Narita Express (N'EX) direct to Shinjuku, or the Keisei Skyliner to Nippori/Ueno and transfer, among other options. To Shinjuku is roughly 1.5 hours as a guide.
  • From Haneda: take the Keikyu line + JR Yamanote line, or the Tokyo Monorail + JR Yamanote line toward Shinjuku. Roughly 40 min to about 1 hour as a guide. You can also take a limousine bus to Shinjuku.
  • Carrying one IC card (Suica, PASMO, etc.) makes getting on and off trains and buses smooth.

STEP 3 — From Shinjuku to Higashimurayama Station on the Seibu Shinjuku line

Once you reach central Tokyo, Higashimurayama is close. Board the Seibu Shinjuku line at Seibu-Shinjuku Station, heading for Higashimurayama Station. Seibu-Shinjuku Station is a short walk from JR Shinjuku Station, so when transferring, follow the signs for the “Seibu Shinjuku Line.”

Stopping stations and travel times differ by train type (Express, Semi-Express, etc.). Before boarding, check the destination and train type to confirm it stops at Higashimurayama Station. For exact times and fares, we recommend checking Seibu Railway or a transfer app.

Once you arrive at Higashimurayama Station

Arrive at Higashimurayama Station and your walk has already begun. In front of the station stands that statue of Ken Shimura. From here, let's set out for the three landmark spots and the newer ones.
