What is a “kurabiraki” (brewery open day)?
A “kurabiraki” is a festival in which a brewery opens to the public areas you normally can't enter and serves freshly made and limited sake. Toshimaya Shuzo's open day, “TOSHIMAYA FESTA,” is held usually around November. A glass savored in the brewery has a special feeling, different from drinking at a shop.
A lively day, and not only sake
TOSHIMAYA FESTA is known for buzzing not only with sake and food stalls but with stage acts like rakugo storytelling, samba and DJs. Savoring limited sake in a standing-bar (kakuuchi) atmosphere — it's a special day when the whole brewery becomes one festival. If you visit Higashimurayama in autumn, timing your trip to this day is one nice way to travel.
The date, content (stage acts and stalls) and admission method change from year to year. Always check the latest with Toshimaya Shuzo's official information and social media before you go. The “this year's information” in this column is as of the last-updated date at the bottom of the page. In Japan, drinking under the age of 20 is prohibited by law. Never drink and drive.
